The former Guilderland Chamber "Entrepreneur of the Year"
and regional "Trainer-of-the-Year" nominee of the American
Society of Training and Development, Mark Grimm has an impressive
history of private sector accomplishment in business and media
along with substantial contributions to his community and government.
He is the founder of Mark Grimm Communications,
a Guilderland public speaking training and media relations firm.
Mark
spent 12 years as a TV news anchor/reporter and producer, a career
that spanned six markets. Mark
- conducted one-on-one interviews with Presidents Bush
and Clinton
- appeared on CBS News and the Phil Donahue Show
- saw news ratings double as anchor at Denver's NBC-owned station
Mark has appeared often as an analyst for Capital Region media
outlets.
Mark is
past President of the Stevens Farm Homeowners Association on West
Lydius St. He is the volunteer producer/host of the Siena
Alumni Connection radio program on WVCR 88.3.
He was a founding committee member for Operation
Welcome Home --- established during the 1991 Persian Gulf War
to help provide a successful homecoming experience for returning
vets.
In 2009,
Mark released his book, Everyone
Can Be A Dynamic Speaker: Yes, I Mean You! It is a practical
and inspirational book on speaking.
Grimm was
a senior communications executive for seven years in state government.
As Director of Communications Services in the state Assembly,
he
- managed 22 employees in four units
- coordinated statewide public forums
- did media training for Assembly legislators and future legislators
From 1995-1998,
Mark was Special Assistant to the Director at the Governor's Office
of Regulatory Reform. Mark was the driving force behind an office-wide
database that tracked key results such as actual savings from
regulatory reform. His "What's Driving You Nuts" form
became a popular feedback tool resonating with frustrated businesses.wners

In November
of 2007, Mark was elected to the Guilderland Town Board. He was
the leading vote getter in a four-way race that unseated two entrenched
incumbents.Mark has managed six political campaigns, including
one in the Rensselaer County Legislature where a first-time candidate
defeated an eight-year incumbent.
Since Fall
of 2003, Mark has been an adjunct professor at either St. Rose
or Siena.
His courses have included Mass
Media, Media Ethics, and Broadcast Journalism. In
a November 2005 department review, Mark’s teaching was evaluated
in five categories – content mastery, breadth & depth,
delivery, teacher-student rapport, and overall rating. Out of
a maximum score of 35, Mark received a 35.
Mark has a master's in communications from Syracuse University's
Newhouse School and is a magna cum laude Siena graduate ('78),
where he was named the Conlin Scholar, the college's top honor
for English majors.
